12 months long-term test on Bikeperfect

ONE-FORTY 6000

Our test and award-winning ONE-FORTY 6000 first made its way to the Bikeperfect team over 12 months ago, when head tester Guy Kesteven put it through its paces. Walking away with an impressive 4.5 out of 5 score and a verdict that praised its “radical, hard riding geometry, smooth suspension plus wheel and travel change potential and a lot of neat features with super solid, good value kit” (full review here) it was no surprise that the team wanted to keep our trail bike to find out how it would perform over a gruelling, and often wet, 12 months test period.

The job fell on Editor Richard Owen, who used the bike at various events, on his home test loops and as a mule to try out various components ove the 12 months.

Like Guy, Richard appreciated the “the progressive geometry” that “gives a really planted feel which works with the grippy Maxxis tire pairing to boost confidence on steep trails”.

With various non-stock components finding their way onto the bike, it was difficult to give detailed feedback on every aspect of the spec build but after his lengthy test period, Richard very much echoed Guy’s findings, commenting that “I've been left in no doubt at all that Merida has created a totally sorted, easy-to-ride trail mountain bike and it's been a blast putting it to the test over that time. It's fared very well over the many months of testing which included a winter that has been particularly hard on bikes…I can't argue with Guy's original score and I were looking to buy a new trail bike, the Merida One-Forty 6000 would definitely be right up there on my shortlist.”
