Welcome to the MERIDA family - Gaia Tormena

We are excited to announce the latest addition to the MERIDA family, three times mountain bike cross-country eliminator (XCE) World Champion Gaia Tormena. As part of the MERIDA Italy sponsorship program, she will be competing across various mountain bike disciples onboard our bikes.

Her focus for the 2023 season is to continue to be at the sharp end of the sprint eliminator and short track cross-country World Cup, which kicks off this weekend in Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic.

With a packed race calendar that lasts from this weekend to November, Gaia certainly has her work cut out and is excited to race on our latest cross-country and enduro technology. For the cross-country disciplines, she’ll be selecting either our hardtail BIG.NINE or full-suspension NINETY-SIX as the course requires, but as a keen and competitive enduro racer, she’ll also have the new ONE-SIXTY on call whenever needed.

While Gaia is still only 20 years old, she already looks back at a long list of outstanding achievements, including three World Championships, four European Championships and three Italian Championships in the eliminator discipline, alongside multiple eliminator World Cup successes over the years. In 2022, she also took the Italian Enduro Championship, showing a depth of cycling talent few can manage.

We will watch with anticipation how Gaia kicks off the season this weekend and we are all looking forward to seeing her leave her mark in the various mountain bike disciplines throughout the year.
