Behind the brand: Marc Wunderlich, Inventory Manager
To keep things running smoothly at MERIDA, it takes a huge team of people and in this series, we like to show you a few of the characters from behind the scenes. This time around, it’s Marc Wunderlich, our Inventory Manager.
He’s the person that our partners at the Team Bahrain Victorious World Tour road team turn to when they need the right parts to keep their fleet of race bikes at the front of the peloton, no matter where they are in the world.
As he says, his job is “finding solutions for short-term problems”, making sure the pro athletes get what they need, when they need it. That means he’s able to rustle up hard-to-find components or spares at a moment’s notice, then navigate all the customs paperwork, declarations and permissions so that they turn up at the team hotel, whether that’s in a small French town or on the other side of the world.
Moving quickly is something Marc likes to do in his spare time too, as he is an accomplished road, track and time trial athlete. As he says: “I really like the speed and the competition against the wind, pain and other riders.”
It makes sense that his personal ride is a fast one, build around a 2018 REACTO DISC TEAM frame, with long stem and short handlebar, SRM power meter, Aero bottles and a wheelset made by Protens. He says it’s “a super light aero optimised machine” but he also has a few other tools in the box, with a SCULTURA DISC, TIME WARP TT bike, REACTO TRACK plus a MISSION CX and BIG.NINE mountain bike on hand when needed.
Marc has made some great memories on these bikes, saying: “The best single ride was from Stuttgart to Bodensee and back to Stuttgart with some friends, I had completed 361.4 km at the end and we had a lot of fun - and pain.”
“The best event was Rad am Ring together with Avia Racing Team, to ride a bike on Nürburgring is amazing. I was the fastest rider in this team at under 42min for one lap, you could reach more than 100 kph and we won the “roadbike 24hr 8-team” overall.”
