MBUK tests the BIG.NINE 8000 TR
Our BIG.NINE TR is the more trail-friendly version of our classic BIG.NINE race hardtail, combining the latest version of the BIG.NINE frame with a longer 120 mm fork, short travel dropper post and more trail-happy tyres. While not trying to take the thunder away from the test-winning BIG.TRAIL trail hardtail range, the BIG.NINE TR perfectly bridges the gap between ‘classic’ cross-country racing and riding and aggressive trail hardtail fun.
That was exactly what the team at MBUK found out when they tested the top-of-the-line BIG.NINE TR 8000 in the December 2023 issue. While pointing out that the TR is not an aggressive trail slayer, they very much appreciate the “snappiness when you push on the pedals, with the frame not staling any hard-earned power”.
Besides the directness of the frame itself, they also pointed out the well-thought-through ‘Agilometer’ sizing system that has been incorporated into the new BIG.NINE frame concept allowing riders to choose their frame not just on body height but on the riding characteristics they are looking for.
Further elements the test team pointed out:
+ Direct feeling, fast-reacting frame that benefits riders who love putting in maximum effort
+ Good spec for the money, with a great feeling fork and top spec drivetrain
+ Snappy handling that feels great on tight and twisty trails
+ Its speedy nature comes through on proper XC days and when trying to bag KOMs at the local trail centre
