The 2023 season has come to an end, and Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS looks back on a very successful year as well as the tragic loss of their teammate Gino Mäder. Looking ahead to 2024, Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS will see a major redesign of its team colours. Undoubtedly, the clean and classic design will stand out at every event Team BAHRAIN-VICTORIOUS competes in, helping our riders to play a decisive role at the front of the peloton.
The new design is a departure from the traditional red, orange and black we have become accustomed to over the years and is heavily influenced by the PEARL EDITION the team rode in this year’s Tour de France. The colours and design of the PEARL EDITION pay homage to the pearling industry, which has been the backbone of Bahrain’s economy for centuries, helping to make the country a prosperous trading hub. As well as the primary frame colour of white/pearl, the design’s gold details refer to the Kingdom of Bahrain, while the teal features represent the two seas that surround the country’s coastline.
The transition from black to navy blue along the top tube and inside the forks refers to the UCI’s sustainability goals, to which Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS is fully committed. A key objective for the team and its partners is to reduce its carbon footprint in line with the UCI’s mandate for teams to reduce emissions by 2030, as well as to inspire future generations and encourage wider adoption of cycling as a sustainable form of exercise.
More details on the 2024 team line-up and equipment coming soon.
TEAM BIKES
REACTO DISC TEAM
After winning numerous awards and tests in special-interest magazines, our purebred aero bike, the REACTO TEAM, showed its true versatility in 2021's gruelling Paris-Roubaix classic. Built to slice through the air and transfer every watt of power from the pedals to the ground, the latest iteration of the REACTO TEAM can run tyres up to 30 mm wide. The wider tyres add compliance on rougher roads to the mix - something that aero bikes were not previously known for.
SCULTURA DISC TEAM
Introduced during the 2021 season, the fifth generation SCULTURA was able to secure several World Tour wins before its official launch in September 2021. The SCULTURA blends low weight for climbing performance and perfect cable integration with truncated foil profiles for aerodynamic ability. It now flawlessly incorporates Shimano's novel, semi-wireless Dura-Ace Di2 groupset too. Apart from its handling and low weight, team riders also praise the SCULTURA TEAM's endurance-boosting compliance and perfectly balanced handling, making it a proven winner in World Tour races.
TIME WARP TT TEAM
New for the 2022 season, the TIME-WARP TT is the final MERIDA team bike of Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS to switch from rim to disc brakes. While disc brakes will provide reliable stopping power under all weather conditions and can save vital fractions of a second, they also allow tyres of up to 28 mm to be fitted, which further reduces rolling resistance and enhances grip. Despite the higher system weight following the necessary changes to the frame and fork, the MERIDA team has managed to keep the weight of the TIME-WARP TT constant, giving the riders the full benefit of disc brakes without any weight penalty. In addition, the latest version of the S-FLEX seat post further reduces road buzz. It improves comfort and positively affects rider fatigue, all while keeping an aerodynamically optimised profile.
Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS’ team bikes continue to stand out from the crowd thanks to the eye-catching colour design dominated by various shades of red and some blue, reflecting the national colours of the kingdom of Bahrain. Furthermore, the entire team bike arsenal, including the TIME-WARP TT DISC time trial bike, benefits from disc-brake technology, enabling pinpoint braking and modulation in any race situation. With an ever-improving mixture of time trial, sprint and climbing specialists in the team, we are greatly looking forward to seeing how our three bikes perform throughout the season. And as Matej Mohoric's 2022 victory at the Milano – Sanremo classic has shown, MERIDA continues to closely cooperate with the team to optimise their equipment further and give the riders a competitive advantage.
To give the riders detailed and accurate information about their performance, the team has selected the latest generation Shimano Dura-Ace R9200-P power meters. On top of that, the team chooses to use the 9250 Dura-Ace Di2 series groupset, including electronically actuated shifting and hydraulic disc brakes. The latest Di2 version works semi-wirelessly, and the frames of our team bikes have been optimised around this system.
Regarding wheels, Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS trusts in the latest generation of Vision's superb METRON SL Disc wheel series, which were further improved in terms of rim shape and carbon structure. The METRON SL 40 Disc wheels are the first choice for days with plenty of climbing due to their weight of less than 1.25 kg per set. Sprinters and breakaway racers will opt for the METRON SL 60 Disc with a more deep-section rim-profile, offering an improved aero-performance and slightly higher stiffness at full-gas sprinting with somewhat trickier handling in heavy crosswinds as a trade-off. All wheels used by the team are hand-built, trued in Italy and spin on low-resistance ceramic bearings.
The 2021 season saw the team’s gradual switch from tubular to tubeless wheels, an experiment that has been a complete success and has allowed the riders to profit from increased traction and puncture protection without a trade-off in rolling resistance.
Only the best will do when it comes to tyres, so Team BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS continues to use Continental's GP5000S TR tyres for the 2023 season. Available in widths ranging from 25 to 32 mm, these tubeless-ready tyres combine ultimate grip, super-fast rolling speeds and high puncture resistance. FSA and Vision will carry on supplying the cockpits and seat posts with the team using the one-piece Vision METRON stem/handlebar combos, which offer superior aerodynamic performance and improve sprint stiffness during sprints. Vision is also the supplying partner for the one-piece METRON TT time trial cockpits and offers specific, 3D shaped handlebar extensions for the team leaders.
Finally, saddles are supplied by Prologo – all with carbon rails and carbon shells. Riders can choose between the PAS system (with a central recess) and closed-shell designs, plus they can also use Prologo's unique CPC anti-friction system on the covers. The brand-new Scratch M5 saddle will also be provided, offering a compact option that delivers a higher level of comfort and an impressive weight of just 140 grams.
